Members from four Rotary Clubs, two Lions Clubs, a Leo Club, a Kiwanis Club, and an Optimist Club joined forces on Saturday September 14 to breathe new life into a local park in the Prospect District of Grand Cayman.Members from four Rotary Clubs, two Lions Clubs, one Leo Club, one Kiwanis Club, and one Optimist Club joined forces on Saturday September 14 to breathe new life into a local park in the Prospect District of Grand Cayman.Together, they planted 26 trees in an initiative that enhanced the green spaces of the community and marked International Community Week.
Local political representatives attended the event whch was also supported by corporate sponsor DART. Additionally, the Public Works Department ensured that the planting was carried out with professional precision and Pro Plus Garden Centre provided invaluable guidance on tree selection and planting techniques.
The day began with a brief ceremony where community leaders spoke about the significance of the project, particularly in the context of International Community Week. The representatives highlighted how such initiatives not only improve the environment but also foster a sense of unity and pride among residents, aligning with the week’s theme of global and local community engagement. As volunteers dug, planted, and watered, the atmosphere was filled with a shared sense of accomplishment. Children of club members as well as from the Leo Club worked alongside adults from the other organizations, illustrating the intergenerational commitment to community welfare.
The planted trees, a mix of native species chosen for their suitability to the local climate and soil, are expected to enhance the park's aesthetics and contribute to its ecological health. As they grow, these trees will offer shade, improve air quality, and provide a habitat for local wildlife.
