THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PURCHASED OUR 2020 RAFFLE TICKET. THE DRAWING IS NOW EXTENDED UNTIL LABOR DAY. The drawing was to be held at our Steak & Beer Tasting Dinner. That event was canceled due to Covid-19 concerns. So many of our fundraising events are canceled or postponed. But the needs of many are still great. Now, during these tough times, our Raffle Drawing fundraiser takes on special importance. This is a great way to help us help those in need in our community and in the world. PLEASE SUPPORT THE WORK OF ROTARY BY PURCHASING OUR ELITE 300 RAFFLE TICKETS. It's a 50/50 drawing with 3 chances to win. |

THE YEAR IN REVIEWMy Fellow Rotarians and friends:
On behalf of your club's Board of Directors, and on behalf of MJ, I wish you and yours the happiest of New Year's celebrations and all good things in the new year.
As your President, I thank you for your support through the past year as our club has ventured into unfamiliar territory on several occasions:
- Through our involvement with Lonnie's organization (General Needs) we took the lead in an enormous Homeless Veterans Project at the VA, and have continued our activities benefitting these veterans.
- We received $9,000 in grants from the district ($4k) and from Wells Fargo Advisors($5k), dedicated to the continuation of our veterans-focused efforts.
- Through our RYLA experience, we launched 2 new Interact clubs at Huntington and Walt Whitman High Schools.
- We launched an application process for beneficiary organizations to apply for and support their financial requests. 18 are included in our budget.
- We introduced an evening meeting alternative for those unable to attend our lunch meetings.
- We initiated a Corporate membership category, attracting the likes of Huntington Hospital/Dolan Center and General Needs LLC.
- We enjoyed unfailing support from many in the business community: Aboff's Paints, Kleet Lumber, The Engeman Theater, Book Revue, Piccolo Restaurant, Mill Pond, PSEG-LI, Wells Fargo Advisors, TD Bank
- With Bill Bohn's help, we have reinvigorated our club's Facebook presence, and purchased floor signs for the 4 Way Test and a backdrop with a more modern feel.
- We attracted 8 new members in 2015 and have 4 more in various stages of that process.
Regarding those last 2 points: 3 of our new members researched us and other clubs on Facebook...and chose our club due to your active involvement in the community. So, congratulations to us all.
Stay tuned for an exciting 2016 as we continue to move forward, with your support!
Happy New Year to you and yours.
Yours in the spirit of Rotary,
- Greg

VETERAN'S PROJECTAs many of you know, the Huntington Rotary club and the district have recently concluded a massive project benefiting the 46 homeless veterans who are served out of the Salvation Army building on the VA's Northport campus. This undertaking involved 133 volunteers and over 1,000 volunteer hours, over 4 weeks as we installed a Healing Garden in front of the building, painted the building's interior and rebuilt the library. Our volunteers came from 7 Rotary Clubs, Wells Fargo Advisors and PSEG-LI.
Special thanks also go to all the suppliers who donated time and materials for the project: Aboff's Paints; Kleet Lumber; Schlick Design Group; J Van Cott Nurseries; Gannon Builders; and Starkie Brothers Mason Supply.

OUR FIRST ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF TREESThis year we had a wonderful new fundraising event, and it was quite a success. The club gave out nearly one hundred 30" table-top artificial trees to be decorated by the recipients, and then brought back to the club. We then auctioned off the beautifully decorated trees as a fundraiser. Mac's Steakhouse was jammed full with festive people ready to ring in the holiday season. The inaugural event brought in over $5,000.00 to help our club give back to the community. |
