Our Rotary Foundation awarded $40,500 in grants to 14 area charities.
 
$40,500 in grants were awarded to 14 area charities at our weekly luncheon on Tuesday, June 30.

Awards were given to:

The Arizona Broadway Theatre for its children's programs.

Arizona Funeral Directors Association to provide medical aid to school-age children with needs that are not commonly met by other service organizations. Recipients are identified by school nurses.

Banner Boswell/Mesa Community College Nursing Program offers two-year accredited RN programs. The grant will assist qualified nursing students to full complete their degree in nursing, and enables the nurse to remain in the Sun Cities providing quality health care for at least two years.

Channel Eight (Arizona PBS) in support of local programming.

Clinica Adelante provides primary and preventative health care and nutrition services for all age groups to the working poor who do not qualify for any other programs.

Interfaith Community Care has opened the Hellen & John M. Jacobs Independence Plaza, housing multi-generational adult-day and child-development centers with inter-generational programming and Birt's Bistro, a social center and cafe, on Greasewood Street in Surprise. The award will be pooled with other Area 4 Rotary Clubs' pledges for the children's book area in the Bistro.

NAMI Arizona provides education, support and advocacy for persons afflicted with mental illness and their families and friends.

St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance will use the grant to provide Emergency Food Boxes and Baby Boxes for families and individuals experiencing short-term financial emergencies due to unforeseen emergencies.

SCAT (Sun Cities Area Transit System) provides on-demand response Dial-a-Ride services. Funds will be used to subsidize transportation costs of local residents to medical appointments, recreational functions, religious services and other personal appointments.

Solecito Services loans temporary health equipment for in-home use to West Valley residents while they recover from surgery or deal with terminal illness.

Sun Valley Lodge Retirement Community has served thousands of residents since 1965.

The 200+member Washington High School Interact Club has been sponsored by our Club for ten years. Their funds will be used to support their many community-based service projects.

West Maricopa County Regional Association of Realtors will uses its funds for a Make a Difference Day project.

The West Valley Child Crisis Center provides shelter for children ranging from newborn infants to 12-year-olds in five four-bedroom homes.

The Foundation also gives student scholarships to attend RYLA, (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, a the weekend camp held each February), presents monthly awards to Thompson Ranch Elementary Students of the Month from 4th, 5th, and 6th grades and pays for the attendance of several Washington High School Interact members at monthly meetings
