Speaker: District Governor Elect John Gilvesy spoke about Microfinance in Honduras. He travelled there with a team of 15 earlier in 2017. Microfinance provides small loans to poor people so they can establish businesses. The small loans allow the local people , usually women, to establish small businesses and support their families. Each week, the people report to their group on their finances and success. This is important because the success of the group depends on each participant and their ability to receive their loans as a group requires that each individual in the group manage their business well and repay their loan. The members of the group are inter-dependant both for business as well as their loans. People are able to use the loans to establish a business and to employ others in their business thus benefiting the whole community.
