Dave Rushton - Who Am I presentation

President Brian Clark reminded us of the good things Rotary does in the world. He related some of the stories he heard at the Presidents Elect Training Session on the weekend. One of them related to a Rotary Peace Scholar from Afghanistan who may one day become President of that war-torn country. Each year, the Rotary Foundation funds study by Peace Fellows at 6 Rotary Peace Centers around the world. They earn a Masters degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution. Since 2002-2003, over 1,071 Fellows from more than 120 countries have participated. In 2014-2015 there were 89 Peace Fellows from 39 countries funded by the Rotary Foundation at a cost of $3.8 million. PolioPlus Since 1985, Rotary members have helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children against polio. To date in 2017, there has only been 1 new case of polio reported worldwide. Rotary has committed over $1.5 billion dollars to the eradication of polio, working in cooperation with the World Health Organization and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Correspondence: We received a thank you letter from the Children's Aid Society Endowment Fund. This reflects money that Rotarian Ron Archer received from us for serving as Santa Claus at our Christmas Party and then Ron, in turn, donated the money to the Children's Aid. Thank you, Ron!
Speaker: Dave Rushton gave us his "Who Am I " talk. Dave grew up in Chesley, Ontario where his father farmed and his mother was a teacher. His father later sold his farm and bought the hotel in Crystal Beach. After some time in the hotel business, he sold it and went into the restaurant equipment supply business. The family lived in Nobleton and later in Mississauga.
Dave studied Marketing and Accounting and later did further Accounting studies. He worked for a small accounting firm in Port Elgin where he met his wife, Debbie. Debbie has worked at ScotiaBank. Later, he worked for Ontario Hydro at the Bruce Nuclear Station as a Project Manager and then later in Corporate Management.
When he moved to Kingston, he joined Rotary and later transferred to London with Hydro. Dave was also self-employed for 8 years. Twelve years ago, he got involved in Municipal Government in Fergus-Elora and re-joined Rotary. He has served as Club President and Treasurer. In Parry Sound, he was the Chief Administration Officer and also a Rotary member. Last year, he came to Tillsonburg as Director of Finance.
He likes biking, golf and sailing.
