Rotary Club Of Northwest Des Moines Serves Critical Role In Keeping Kids Warm This Winter
Going into its fifth consecutive year, Rotary Club of Northwest Des Moines distributes over 1,800 coats to children in need throughout the community

URBANDALE, Iowa –October 14, 2019 – The Rotary Club of Northwest Des Moines announces the distribution of 428 winter coats this season to help keep children warm during Iowa’s cold winter months. This year, Endow Urbandale awarded the Rotary Club of NW Des Moines a grant in the amount of $3,000 to help purchase winter coats. In addition, A Tech Easy Living Store in Urbandale provided warehouse space for the Rotarians to label, sort and package coats for delivery to school buildings. Since 2014, Rotary Club of Northwest Des Moines has purchased and distributed 1,808 coats to children in need.

"Keeping kids warm is one of the many projects the Rotary Club of Northwest Des Moines does with the collective passion and purpose of ‘Service Above Self’ and living our vision that we change the world and our community by educating, empowering, building bridges and serving across generations, one community at a time,” said Rotary Club of Northwest Des Moines Past President Brenda Auxier-Mailey. “Keeping warm during the cold winters is something that many of us take for granted. Providing a brand new winter coat for a student in need is one important way the Rotary Club of Northwest Des Moines serves our community.”

Through a partnership with Operation Warm, a nonprofit organization that provides coats at a significant discount, Rotary Club was able to assist all students in the Urbandale Community School District in need of a winter coat. The mission of Operation Warm, to provide new winter coats to children in need, helping to improve self-confidence, peer acceptance, school attendance and overall wellness, is a natural fit for Rotary as both organizations are driven by a passion to serve and support those in need.

Urbandale Community School District is grateful for the partnership with Rotary Club of Northwest Des Moines, and is thankful for the generous donations of winter coats to students in need. These donations are paramount for the health and well-being of students throughout the metro and are sure to keep kids warm and ready to learn this winter.

Donate now to help purchase winter coats for 2020. A donation of $20 will purchase one winter coat.
