Will Prather receives District 6000 Paul E. Hellwege: Guardian of Integrity Recognition
Rotarian Will Prather was one of 13 awarded the Paul E. Hellwege Guardian of Integrity at the Rotary District 6000 Conference and honored at Rotary Club of Iowa’s Annual Recognition Dinner on June 19, 2019.
Judge Hellwege had been a past District Governor in District 6000 and its predecessor districts for 55 years before he died at age 97. He served as District Judge and senior judge until December 1990. To honor his many contributions and to promote the ideals of ethics and integrity the District 6000 clubs were invited to nominate a member who has been a Rotary member for a minimum of three years and whose life exemplifies the attributes and passion for ethics and integrity in his or her vocation, business, and personal life that Paul Hellwege exemplified.
This year Will Prather was nominated from Rotary Club of Knoxville. Prather was a teacher and principal of the Knoxville School District. It was written of Will, ‘He is one of the unofficial historians of his community and county, an environmentalist, conservationist, and consummate altruist.’ Mayor Hatch declared on June 30, 2016, as Will Prather Day, “… for all he has done to better the community organizations where he has worked for the betterment of lives in Knoxville and Marion County.” Prather cares greatly about the past and fervently about the future. He asks his children and others, “How are you going to make your community a better place?” a question we should all ask ourselves.
