Sherry Kubalsky, Children’s Author, spoke to the Johnston Rotary Club this week. Sherry has completed two children’s books and has a third one in process. Her first book is entitled It’s OK to be ME. Her second book is entitled The Square Wreath. These are Christian oriented books in which the proceeds from sales go to Ghana clean water projects. Sherry believes that authoring books is her calling and her way of using her talents to help improve the quality of life for those in need.
Some interesting comments and facts that Sherry spoke about today are as follows:
- Sherry’s books are published by Freedom Press Canada. Freedom Press Canada is a book publishing company based in Toronto, Ontario.
- It takes about one year from writing to ultimate publishing. Because of her relatively small volume, getting her books published is challenging.
- Book promotion and marketing is done predominantly by her going around to various groups and talking about her books.
- Churches and charitable and/or social clubs make up the bulk of her presentations.
- Royalties are small and costs have gone up during the pandemic.
- Proceeds go toward building clean water wells in Ghana. A water well will supply clean water for a village of roughly 500 people, and the well normally costs $3,000 to $5,000. The need is huge.
Sherry grew up in Greene, Iowa, attended UNI and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. She now resides in Ankeny and is in the process of joining the Ankeny Rotary Club.
