The Johnston Rotary Club played a key role in the Third Annual Smokin' Heroes barbecue and smoking competition at Johnston's Green Days celebration June 18-19th, 2021. Rotary members assisted with the smoking competition that involved teams with representatives of fire and police departments, and the military. Smoking of meat began Friday night, with free tastings on Saturday in the afternoon. Rotary members worked at the event, assisting with the smoking set up and clean up, providing materials for the tastings and judging, assisting the judges, seeking sponsorships and contributions, requesting free will donations for the tastings, running a raffle, and announcing the winners of the competition and the raffle. The money raised supports Johnston High School students' cultural learning and service trip to an international camp in Kosovo and Rotary Community Service Projects.
