Rachael Larson, Siemens Industry, Inc., Smart Infrastructure was our Johnston Rotary Club speaker today. She manages the Iowa and Nebraska offices for Siemens art Infrastructure Regionals Solutions and Services. They help connect people with their buildings through smart technologies. Core offerings include Building Automation, Fire, Security, and IoT. The Internet of Things (IoT) describes the network of physical objects— “things”—that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet.
Ms. Larson was able to bring some complicated topics of building controls that best manage costs to something that was understandable to the lay person. A good part of her time was spent on electrical needs of buildings now and in the future.
Of particular interest was how the EV automation movement with electrical vehicle charging stations for employee cars is affecting businesses, their electrical needs and the need to manage these additional power requirements.
