We had two visitors and new potential members who shared their stories.
Michael Hanstad owns Charlotte’s kitchen, a restaurant and food truck. He is a 2017 Iowa State graduate with a degree in marketing. His first business focused on caddy services for golfers, but that didn’t work out as planned. His freshman year in college, Michael started a BBQ sauce called Deadeye, which was available in Fareway and Hy-Vee stores. He sold it 8 months ago to Jordan Elwell, who owns other similar companies in a co-packing business. Michael also started Charlotte’s Kitchen as a food truck two years go and then moved to the prior Dairy Queen building on Merle Hay Road. He recently sold the food truck as a franchise that will remain Charlotte’s Kitchen and will operate year-round
Jason Wiegert is a native of West Des Moines and an Iowa State graduate. He lived in Kansas after graduation but moved back here for family. He works in occupational safety and was employed by a number of manufacturers including Colgate. He now works at Amazon as part of an effort to get one-day shipping off the ground in Des Moines. He met his wife at ISU. They now have two young boys. Jason got into residential real estate about five years ago, rehabbing homes and renting them. He expressed Knows the importance of community and fundraising and he wants to be involved here, too.
