Rotary District 6000 Governor Mike Ruby and his wife, Jo Ann where our special guests at our membership meeting on September 25th. Mike and Jo Ann are about half way through their visit of all the 65 Rotary clubs located in District 6000. During their visit they met with the Board and Committee Chairs, took a tour of several of the community projects that our club has been involved in and also discussed future projects that the club is considering. During his presentation to the members on Tuesday morning, the District Governor encouraged the leadership and members to " Kick the Box", a phrase communicated by Rotary International President Ian Riseley during an address with all the District Governors through the world. Clubs are encouraged to do what works for their clubs. To make the needed changes to grow their clubs and engage members. This years Rotary theme "Rotary, Making a Difference" is exactly what Rotarians do. In their clubs, their communities and the world. The good work being done by the Rotary Clubs in District 6000 is a great demonstration of how to be an effective group that is Humanity in Motion! Governor Ruby is following through with this focus by starting a few pilot projects that are new to the district. Beginning this year the District 6000 Newsletter is going to be printed and sent to all 3800 members in the District. Previously it was only printed and sent to about 300 members and sent via e-mail. Members are being encouraged to read them, enjoy them and then pass them on. Take them to community buildings and offices in their towns to spread the news about the great acts of humanity that are being done by Rotarians. The District Conference, which is held annually has been in one site for three days. This April, it will be a series of events throughout the District over the three days. These "Toasts" will be 3 hours celebrations of Rotary and all the good that Rotarians are doing. The District is also going to start supporting an organization called World Bicycle Relief. This Organization can take a donation of $147.00 and purchase and deliver a bike to a person of need. That Bicycle can change the lives of up to 5 people in area of the world where transportation is a major barrier to growth. The bikes are strong and reliable and Rotary is going to support the growth of this organization that can make a real change. In closing Mike and Jo Ann expressed their desire to help our club and others to Make a Difference and expressed their thanks for a great visit.
