The World Race is a stretching journey to serve “the least of these” while among the real and raw community. This unique mission trip is a challenging adventure for young adults to abandon worldly possessions and a traditional lifestyle in exchange for an understanding that it's not about you; it's about the Kingdom.
Morgan Foldes is a Johnston High School graduate and a 2014 graduate of Iowa State University. She presented a little over a year ago to the Johnston Rotary Club “before” she left for the 11 month, multi-continent mission trip. This presentation today was the “after” presentation and covered the trip itself, her thoughts, feelings and the general experience.
Major points mentioned during Morgan’s presentation were:
- This mission is seeing the world in a “real and raw way.” It is about having a heart to serve and loving people.
- She is a much more emotional person now and in the process, learned much more about herself. Along the way, she grew a great deal in confidence.
- There was a budget of $3-$4 per day for each mission person. Through fund raisers, she raised $15,691 for the trip. This included her costs for lodging, meals and transportation.
- The age group requirements of those that can attend are from 21 to 35 years of age. In her group, there were 5 men and 42 women.
- Countries visited and mentioned during the presentation were Sudan, Nicaragua, Swaziland, Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Thailand.
- Morgan saw a broken world in some areas, but it strengthened her faith and deepened her understanding, while making the relationships more meaningful.
Morgan’s next mission is a one-year adventure of service to the country of Thailand.
