A presentation introducing the RaySociety was provided to the club by Nichole Daniel, manager of the RaySociety
The RaySociety was established in 2004 with 100 founding members and is named in honor of Gov. Robert and Billie Ray.
Current membership is about 900 and it is growing.
The RaySociety is part of the Drake community, residing in University Advancement. However, the society does not have a requirement for alumni status or age restrictions to participate.
Membership in the Society provides for special invitations and access to campus events.
Society members also provides access to the core program of 35-45 activities each spring and fall semester. These activities include 3-4 sessions on a single topic (for a $30 fee), single session lectures (free), and community tours/events.
Course instructors are all volunteers, as are the leadership of the RaySociety Council and Committees per the wishes of Gov. Ray.
Classes are usually held M-F, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, September through June. They are usually held on the Drake Campus, and class sizes range from 20 – 200.
Membership is $50 per year plus class fees or a lifetime membership of $2,500 with no renewal or class fees.
