Al Meyer (left) has officially taken over the President's position of the Johnston Rotary Club from Geno Nelsen. Al gave a brief overview of his 2019-2020 initiatives and at the top of the list is increasing Club membership. Al previously was Treasurer of the Johnston Club and also recently retired as a Colonel in the Iowa National Guard.
A couple of Geno's goals were facilitator for the Green Day's Smokin Hero's event lead by Jim Hibbs, Zach Grandon and Tyler Tompkins. Shane Goodman assisted in promotional activities. Enough money was raised by this event to send 4 Johnston High School students this summer to an International Camp in Kosovo, one of our Iowa Sister States.
Geno also lead the way, along with Greg Baker, in a life jacket stand at Terra Park. Stand design was by Johnston GTG Companies and Rotarian owner Steve Grasso, as well as building the actual structure lead by Rotarian realtor Tom Miller. Water safety is most important and this hand built stand, along with a supply of life jackets, is available if the need arises. Many children and young adults are fishing there regularly and these life jackets will be available. The theme of the stand will be "Kids Don't Float."
