Roteract president, Veronica Ramirez, reported that the Roteract had a booth at the recent University of Iowa student club fair and that students who visited the booth were very interested in the Xicotepec project. Roteract is having a busy year. The student members have collaborated with other student organizations like Dance Marathon, and have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Bickford Assisted Living (playing board games with residents), and the Iowa City AM Rotary Club's can sorting project. Roteract has also held fundraisers at two restaurants (receiving a percentage of sales) and had a button sale (raised around $200). The group raises and sends funds to the Xicotepec Roteract group. Members are also working with the West High Interact Club to collect books (children's books preferred, including picture and chapter books and especially books with English and Spanish) for Xicotepec. Members Veronica and Anna have also been to Xicotepec.
Co-president John McKinstry opened the meeting at 7:10 a.m. He reported past exchange student started medical school. Deb Ockenfels reported the receipt from the recent can sorting was $529.45. The meeting ended just before 8:00 a.m.
