Karen Seda has been proposed for Club membership.
Consulting: Business Development / Sponsored by Usha Balakrishnan
Please express concerns by Oct. 30, 2017.

President Mike addressed the assembly with regard to the following announcements:

1) The search for a new luncheon meeting venue is still ongoing

2) Two new board members will be added to the Club's Board, due to administrative guidelines

3) We are still seeking a candidate for Club President, but the search has not been successful to date. This is due to stringent requirements that candidates must have significant prior tenure on our Club's Board of Directors or must have served as President in a similar capacity.

Induction: Paul Park of Coldwell Banker, who was warmly welcomed by our membership.

Rtn.  Susan Brennan introduced our keynote speaker, Lena Hill. Jokingly but respectfully Susan indicated that Lena has one of the longest professional titles in the state of Iowa  (University of Iowa Interim Chief Diversity Officer and Vice President).   She then described Lena's vast academic background as well as  the process pursuant to which our guest speaker will mesh academia and administration.

Lena Hill began her address to the members by setting forth her proposed theme, that is, her methodology for promoting diversity and ethnic/racial harmony in her new position at the university.  She introduced her new book, "Invisible Hawkeyes," co-authored with her husband.  The work is a compilation of authentic life stories of creative African-Americans in Iowa, seeking their respective identities.  Lena's talk/slide show depicted the creative and intellectual lives of several African-Americans in Iowa, whose lives had not been widely portrayed heretofore. Lena's academic research and writings have been informed by the life and work of Ralph Waldo Ellison, particularly by his best known novel, "invisible Man."  Lena answered a few questions from the audience.

The meeting ended, timely at 1:00 pm, as President Mike led us in reciting the Four (4) Way Test.
MEETING:

Singing: America the Beautiful and Vive Le Rotary led by Bob Crane.
