The Grinnell Rotary Club held its regular weekly meeting on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Following the opening of the meeting, members shared good news and club business. The speaker for this week’s meeting was Scott Sieck, president of the Poweshiek County Fair Association Board of Directors.
Practically everyone around has been to the Poweshiek County Fairgrounds. What a great venue to have locally. There are wedding receptions, toy shows and dog shows that attract out-of-staters, and there are many other events. But the ultimate goal of the fair is to enable development in the youth of Poweshiek County.
The first fairgrounds date back to1854. Only a few years have been missed. Even despite COVID, adjustments were made to hold the fair. Now the growth of the fair over the last ten years has seen expansion and upgrades. New bleacher seats have been installed as well as new sheep and hog pins inside the barns. Part of the upgrade will be a handicap accessible bathroom and also additional storage space. The capital improvement projects are estimated at 2.3 million dollars with a goal of raising the funds within 2-3 years.
This year’s fair dates are July 11 & 14 – 19, 2026.
