For many years, Ulmann's Furniture Store on the corner of 1st Avenue and West Street was a fixture you would not miss when arriving in Grinnell. Recently, that store location closed. Thanks a series of fortuitous events, Grinnell Historical Museum was able to purchase the property.. Over the last two years that building has been transformed in the official location of the Grinnell Historical Museum. A proud sign proclaims the location which is lit at night. The building underwent a transformative conversion, from the outside appearance to a completely refurbished interior.
The Grinnell Rotary Club has been deeply involved along with the help of many Grinnell businesses and individuals. The museum Classroom was underwritten by a $ 5,000 Rotary Grant and $ 5,000 from Grinnell Rotary Club. This year, 2025, another $ 12,000 from another Rotary Grant $ 6000 and Grinnell Rotary $ 6000 will be donated.
Members Ann Igoe, Frank Shults, Bill Hammen, Doug Cameron and Bruce Blankenfeld serve on the Grinnnell Historical Museum Board. These active board members have given over 7,250 volunteer hours to their museum project.
