Here's What's Happening at East Polk Rotary
Thank you to Dr. Blessman and Heidi Kramer for sharing about the wonderful work that Blessman International has been doing in South Africa, even with the constraints of COVID.  It was interesting to hear about the Celebrate Recovery program they started in the high schools to help curb the alcohol and drug problems there.  They have also started a soccer league with fellow churches.  Their new project that they are working on, and trying to obtain a Rotary Grant for, is the Enviro Loo project to provide safe toilet stalls for impoverished young children.  Dr. Blessman is looking for support for this project.  We will discuss his request during our business meeting in the morning.
Mark Dylo is Rotarian of the Day tomorrow.
In lieu of our morning meeting next week, we will have our Annual Family Picnic.  This will be at Thomas Mitchell Park, Shelter House #2, at 6 p.m.  So far only 9 people have signed up, and we need to determine this week if we go ahead or cancel so we can get our  money back on the shelter house.  Please respond to your email about the event by either accepting or declining.  We'd love to see you and your family there!  Thanks so much to the Club Service Committee for getting this set up for us.
Thank you,
Marie Pipes
East Polk Rotary President

Polio Eradication Update - Terry Ziegler, Endowment/Major Gifts Adviser Rotary Region 36 - No new Wild Polio cases reported this week!  Statement on polio eradication activities in Afghanistan:  In 2021, despite internal conflicts and a global pandemic, Afghanistan is seeing unprecedentedly low transmission of wild polio, with just one case reported this year.  Not only has the country seen a drastic reduction in cases of wild polio, polio surveillance data confirms this progress and significantly less virus is being detected in the environment.  As conflict in Afghanistan quickly evolves, we must advocate for the children of Afghanistan.  The polio program must work and communicate with all stakeholders involved to ensure that polio immunization remains a priority so that the gains we have made against polio do not diminish.  We look forward to working with our polio eradication partners and the Afghani people to completely eradicate polio.
