Kamwokya Community Development

Kamwokya is home to over 41,000 residents, many living in semi-permanent structures under challenging conditions. The area is characterized by limited access to clean water, sanitation, drainage, and health services, compounded by high population density, disease prevalence, and social vulnerability. It is also a multicultural community hosting refugees and migrants from neighboring countries affected by conflict.

In response to these challenges, Rotary Club of Kitante has prioritized water and sanitation interventions as a foundation for improved health and dignity.

Water & Sanitation Partnership Success

Through strategic partnerships, including collaboration with Kamwokya Christian Caring Community (KCCC) — a faith-based NGO with over 30 years of experience in the area — Rotary Club of Kitante has successfully:

  • Extended access to clean, piped water within the community

  • Installed eight communal piped water meters, significantly reducing the cost of safe water

  • Subsidized clean water costs by over 90%, improving affordability for vulnerable households

These achievements demonstrate how strong partnerships translate resources into tangible, life-changing outcomes.
