President’s Remarks

Hellooooo Rotarians, rotaractors and guests of RC Kampala North.

It is yet another Monday when we get to fellowship, learn , engage , bond and fulfill God’s intention for man to connect. For us within the rotary family, we do that while we serve humanity. What a noble cause!

The last week of October was jam packed with activities for us. On 31st October 2025, RCKN conducted a vocational tour to the Rotary Cancer Ward at Nsambya.

At the start of the tour, we received a briefing from Rtn Dr. Sekitoleko on the status of the cancer ward and cancer care generally in the country. He briefly took us through the screening, diagnosis, staging and treatment options for cancer. We surely learnt a lot on cancer care , its prevention and the diagnosis and care options we currently have in Uganda. However, while we have moved a few steps forward, he amplified the need to create awareness amongst our population on prevention, screening and care. He further amplified the need for political will similar to how Uganda handled HIV and COVID to save more lives and the decentralization of cancer care to ensure that wherever our citizens are, they are able to be screened, diagnosed and some initial care provided before it’s too late. He shared some of the statistics on cancer which were quite alarming, so I will spare you the details for now, so I don’t ruin your mood for fellowship. His message was clear, that we need to screen regularly, we need to prevent and we need awareness on care.

We ended the tour with a visit to the construction site for the linear accelerator bunkers. A lot of good work has been done. Well done to the Cancer Run program . We were informed that now that more money was raised during the 2025 cancer run, we shall see the building complete soon.

I would like to thank Rtn. Ronnie Mutebi our Chair, Vocational Services for organizing the tour and the many members who joined the tour. The more numbers we have at such events , the more learning and more fun and more benefit derived. Thank you too, to the Rotarians who joined us and the rotaractors who joined us including President Rotaract Club of UICT and Rtr. Walter from KANOS who joined us.

In the evening of the same day, we had the Rotary Peace concert where RCKN was represented by a number of Rotarians including yours truly. At the Peace concert, we interacted with the 10th cohort of the peace fellows and were happy to know the program is doing well and achieving its intended objective. We wined and dined and enjoyed the beautiful maestro Isaiah Katumwa serenade us. In the end we also got to know that the event and activities around it raised US$ 113,000. A very worthwhile achievement I would say! So, to you our members who contributed generously , thank you. Am certain our member and a patron of the Rotary Peace Centre in Uganda , PDG Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa was pleased.

To crown October 2025, was the race to the end of the early bird registration for DISCON 101. At the end of the race , RCKN had 30 fully paid registered members and featured as No. 8 on the leaderboard for District 9213. This is 55% of our intended numbers at the DISCON. Well done members. Now, for those who prefer to pay the business class rate of $299, we know the Lord will provide the funding and can only say Godspeed🙏🏿.

Last but not least Novemberrrrrr is here. We know it’s the Rotary Foundation Month! We know what we need to do! We know the impact of the Rotary Foundation! As a club, we have scheduled to celebrate our givers on 17th November 2025. By that date, we hope to have achieved our TRF target for the year and most importantly deliver an all giving club as we celebrate our givers in the club. Wouldn’t that be the best way to celebrate Tusu’s election as a trustee of the Rotary Foundation? We would have truly demonstrated that actions speak louder than words. I therefore urge you to give, and give generously. Remember every coin counts!
