The Service Projects Committee held their monthly meeting on Wednesday to review progress on each of the projects currently running in the Club. The focus is on enhancing member engagement, accelerating project progress, and addressing immediate challenges.
Current Status & Key Updates
Service Project Enhancement:
To boost member participation, a training program on project development has been planned. A team comprising Rtn. Fred Mukwanga and Rtn. Stephen Ssendi was created to help members turn their project ideas into full proposals.
SORVP Project:
Significant progress has been made on the SORVP project, including the completion of boundary marking on the 20-acre land. Designs for the hostel accommodations are also finalized.
Siriba Project:
The project is on the verge of completion, with only final tasks remaining.
Vocational Visits:
Two visits are scheduled: a visit to Wakisa Ministries on September 25th and a planned visit to the Nsambya Cancer Ward on a date to be announced.
Challenges & Risks
- Member Engagement: The committee is facing low member participation in training sessions and project activities.
- Funding Deadline: There is an urgent need to spend the approximately 70 million Ugandan Shillings from the Irish Embassy within a tight 90-day window.
- Project Completion: Delays in uploading project data to the RI Portal on the Siriba project (for purposes of closing the project) and a lack of response from the school's management regarding the draft MOU. PP Frank is tasked with addressing the challenges related to the carpentry workshop's electrical system and obtaining the bills of quantities for the hostel construction. PP Frank will work to finalize the project by the end of the month by completing the remaining WASH and computer training, arranging for rebranding, and securing a face-to-face meeting with the school's management to finalize the MOU
- Logistics: The upcoming vocational visits face low sign-ups, and the logistics and budget are yet to be finalized. Rotarian Ronnie Mutebi is responsible for confirming the number of participants for the Wakisa Ministries visit and finalizing the details and budget for both planned trips.
