Service Above Self

What makes a member of our network unique? It begins with a shared commitment to our core values: integrity, diversity, service, leadership, and fellowship. We channel this commitment through two primary frameworks that define our activity and ethical standards.

The Five Avenues of Service

These avenues serve as the foundation of club activity around the world:

  • Club Service focuses on making our clubs strong through meaningful relationships and robust membership development.
  • Vocational Service calls on every member to work with integrity and contribute professional expertise to help address the needs of society.
  • Community Service encourages us to find ways to improve the quality of life for those in our local area.
  • International Service exemplifies our global reach in promoting peace and understanding by building long-distance partnerships.
  • Youth Service empowers young leaders through leadership development programs such as Interact and Rotary Youth Exchange.

The Four-Way Test

Developed in 1932, this test has long served as an ethical guide for members to live by in their personal and professional relationships:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
