Rotary Board meeting May 9, 2018

Present: Bob, Chris, Phil, John, Aaron, Adam, Nick

  1. Treasurer report balance in club account is $26,562.61 and balance in the Foundation account is $12,033.38. Members are pretty much up to date.
  2. Kimmes Corporation has applied for a corporate membership. Move by Adam second by Bob all approve. Members of the corp are: Chris Van Dyke, Steve Kimmes, and Jake Kimmes.
  3. RSVP made an annual request for support. Motion by Bob, second by Adam to give $250 (about the amount we usually give to them) all approved.
  4. American Legion Auxillary requested support. Motion by Adam second by Bob all approve $100.
  5. CHS and Kuemper scholarship was discussed. The board has in the past given money (about $2000) to each school. We had discussed doing our own scholarship rather than joining with the CHS foundation. Chris was involved with the recent decision awarding scholarships and found out: 1) we could easily award our RYLA student, 2) We are in the Foundations procedures as permanent members, 3) our president is in the selection committee and can give the award at the ceremony. For all these reasons the Board decided to remain as we have been. Bob has always given the speech and award at Kuemper. Bob moved, Aaron second giving $2000 to each school as a scholarship; all approved.
  6. We are nearing completion of an application for a $5000 grant for our helmet and dictionary project. Bob moved Adam second approving the application. Nick signed as President elect; all approved.
  7. The Board needs a president for the 2019-20 year. Any interest?? We may use a second term for someone. Stay tuned. Contact Chris or a board member if you have the desire. It is a great experience and you have an opportunity to tell all your bad jokes and people will listen.
  8. Tree planting project the RI wants all clubs to be involved with. Bob will contact Scott Parcher, we suggested NE Park in Carroll ‘Kellans Kingdom.
  9. The board would like to invite CYP members who are aging out (reaching their 40’s) to become members of Rotary. Nick suggested we partner with them on a project so the get an idea of what Rotary does. Adam will contact the CYP president. We think the dictionary/bike helmet project would be a good area.
  10. Planning for the Veterans dinner on 11/9 will begin with a meeting June 20, 2018 at 7 am at Queen Beans. Adam will contact Joni Ernst.
