Carroll Rotary Meeting Minutes 5/6/24
 
Attendance: Catti, Hubert, Bob F., Ron, Lynn, Rich, Bob W., Tom, John, Casey, Trevor, Adam, Aaron
 
Brag Bucks:
Lynn – granddaughter rang the bell to be a dentist in Ames with plans to come back to Carroll eventually.
Tom – stepson received Master’s degree and working for GE.
 
Speakers: CHS Top 10 Seniors: Parker Adams, Karsen Schoenfeld, Caeden Canuso, Noah Lee, Baylie Schulte, Katelyn McFarland, Erin Roberts, Cooper Ludwig, John (Jack) Teggatz, Jack Friel
 
9 of the 10 students have had jobs while in high school.
 
What they liked about growing up in Carroll:
  1. Small-town feel and care.
  2. A lot of opportunity because of the small community.
  3. Feel seen as a person and not just a person or just a face.
  4. Locally owned businesses and support.
What’s missing from Carroll?
  1. Chipotle
  2. Target
  3. Variety of things to do – Carroll is small so easy to run out of things to do. Bigger cities have so much more to offer and so much more going on, easier to get involved in many different things.
All students are graduating with credits from DMACC to transfer to college.
 
Advice for underclassmen:
  1. Get involved in everything that you can.
  2. Don’t take things too seriously. Love yourself first before pleasing other people.
  3. Time management is key to making your life easier.
  4. Create a balance so you know what you can handle with classes and extracurricular activities.
  5. You must study and work hard.
  6. You only go through HS once.
Impacts of social media:
  1. Distracting
  2. Feel like I’m missing something.
  3. Has it’s benefits and downfalls – use it wisely.
  4. Great outlet but can provide a lot of hurt too.
  5. Good way to connect with others but can be distracting.
  6. Become too reliant on it.
