Carroll Rotary 4/4/22 Meeting Minutes
Meeting called to order at 12:10 PM by Chris.
Attendees: Catti, Chris, Bob F., Phil, Hubert, Doc Martin, John, Rich, Ron, Ann, Mike, Aaron, Adam, Lynn
Brag Bucks:
- Phil – 51 years ago 4/4/22 joined the Navy
- Adam – meal that was purchased from the Rotary Auction and prepared by Katie Van Dyke took place on Saturday night and it was delicious. Katie did an amazing job of pairing the meal with a variety of wines as well.
Scholarships:
- Received scholarship application from Kuemper
- $2K given per school
- $1K given to Ryla participants – if they apply
- Talked about giving a scholarship to a student that was interested in staying in Carroll and attending DMACC
- Adam to reach out to Joel to see how we can make this possible.
100th Celebration:
- RSVPs due
- Haven’t had a lot of RSVPs outside the club
- Reach out to surrounding clubs via phone – would provide a more personal touch and more likely to come
- Ann volunteered to reach out to local clubs that we invited – Catti to get Ann this information.

- Haven’t had a lot of RSVPs outside the club
- Confirmed All Strings Attached will have a group to perform background music during social and dinner
- We will provide dinner for those that perform.
- Donating a $$ to them for performing since they don’t charge a fee.
- GC for Mary Baumhover for writing the article about Carroll Rotary - $250
Membership:
- Need to find out if Clay Hayley is planning to stay on as he is our Youth Outreach Coordinator and hasn’t been active.
- Adam to reach out to him.

- Every active Rotarian to call 5 people to let them know that we are meeting and invite them to come to the meetings/activities.

- Actual cost of pig is up in market.
- Plants have re-opened post COVID
- Pork board visited a lot of the communities that were affected by the closures of plants and gave back to help those impacted.
- Construction on new facilities is down due to the rise in cost.
- 25% of pigs are exported, mostly to Mexico
- Japanese like the loins (more expensive pieces of meat)
- Latino population consumes a lot of pork as well.
- 28 million pigs in Iowa alone b/c of our corn production
- World’s largest packing plant is in North Carolina.
- State Fair – getting new pork tent
- Was going to cost $650-$700K pre-COVID with 8 bathrooms
- Post COVID going to cost $1.6 million and will only have 2 bathrooms
- African Swine Flu (ASF)
- Hasn’t reached America yet
- If it comes to America, everything involving animals will be shut down for at least 72 hours.
- Tracking all animal movement in US has begun
- Average 1.3 million animals moved daily
- 100% of infected pigs die within 2-3 days of contact
- Many will be euthanized to prevent spread
- Hasn’t reached America yet
