Carroll Rotary Club 4/25/22 Meeting Minutes
Meeting called to order at 12:08 PM by Catti at Family Table Restaurant.
Attendees: Catti, Phil, Bob F., Doc Martin, Hubert, Ron, Bob W., Joel, Lynn, Adam, Tom, Trevor, Aaron, Mike, Ann, Rich
Brag Bucks:
- 100th Celebration: great turnout, nice to talk to past members and those that live outside of area now
- Doc Martin has a birthday this week! Happy Birthday!!
Speaker:
- Andrea Ross with New Opportunities
- Mentoring coordinator for surrounding 7 counties
- Connect children to caring citizens in the community
- Ages served are 5–17-year old’s
- 4 hours per month required
- 1 year commitment
- Application and background checks required for all mentors
- Mandatory reporting class is required for all mentors
- 2-hour interview and in-home inspection is completed
- Matches are completed based on common interests
- Attend 1 large group activity per year (10 are offered)
- There are “perks” offered to those that are mentors in surrounding communities (movie tickets, BOGO offers, etc.)
- Carroll currently has 9 males (7-12 years old) waiting for mentors
- Most struggle with social and emotional situations
- Communication is the key to making this program successful
- Jane Heithoff – Mentor with New Opportunities
- Mentoring for 13 years in Carroll community
- Many challenges but very rewarding
- Activities include playing with animals, sports, spa day, cooking, baking, bowling, zoo trips, fishing, outdoor activities (mowing, picking up twigs)
- New Opportunities also assist with Early Head Start and Head Start programs, childcare, food pantry, heat bills, home repairs (roof, furnace, AC, etc.), substance abuse programs

New Business:
- Bike Helmets
- Brett Adams usually lines up but is no longer on Rotary.
- Adam will see what we have in stock and see about getting more with inventory challenges being faced right now.
- We can always give these out in the fall if we need more time.
- Scholarships
- Phil suggested a special meeting on Wednesday, April 27th at 7 AM at Family Table Restaurant to make decisions on winners.
- Next year we need to re-write the scholarship instructions
- If go to Ryla, do they still have to apply for scholarship or do they automatically receive scholarship?
- Do we want to budget for more scholarships?
- Joel Lundstrum will be talking with us on May 23rd to determine scholarship needs to reward students staying in the area and attending DMACC
