5 Bargain Shops – Carroll, Manning, Perry, Denison and Atlantic – many volunteers and the public make these successful – helps offset funding needs that other areas of revenue can’t fulfill.
Main funding sources are from the federal and state government.
Main challenge is continuing to keep up with workforce needs and the 24x7x365 nature of the business of taking care of adults with disabilities. Also, funding restrictions and designations from the government that don’t keep up with cost. Seeing different disabilities with mental health issues and the nature of mental health in general creating more discussion and challenges and they will only increase over time.
Use some technology to keep clients that can live on their own in some group homes safe through the night, but all home still has supervisors and designated support staff.
Carroll has been an amazing community and how has welcomed the client they serve into their homes, businesses and made all feel a part of the county and region. Rotary has been a great financial partner and many of its members have served on their Governing and Foundation boards over the years.
Things folks can do is to volunteer to help get clients places like baseball games and outings, help with their special Olympics and other events, volunteer at the Bargain Stores and consider supporting financially.
Their Quilt Auction this last weekend was a great success.
