Carroll Rotary 3/7/22 Meeting Minutes
Meeting called to order at 12:08 PM by Catti at Family Table Restaurant.
Attendees: Catti, Hubert, Bob F., Phil, John, Adam, Deb, Ann, Dave Martin, Ron
Brag Bucks:
  1. Phil/Dave Martin – All Strings Attached concert on Saturday was great. Dave Martin performed on various instruments to help with concert.  
  2. Adam – has raised $97K that is needed to complete the HWY 30 study to make it 4-lanes
    1. attended Cattleman’s auction a week ago and they raised approximately $80K
      1. Auction off trophies for county fair participants
  3. Catti/Chris – attended Pheasants Forever banquet on Saturday night and they raised approximately $20K on live auction only items; there were also many silent auction items present too.
  4. Ron – Turkey banquet is this Saturday (3/12/22) at American Legion here in Carroll
  5. Hubert was dressed in suit for today’s meeting. 😊
Speaker:
Ed Smith with St. Anthony Hospital
  1. Celebrating 1-year post-opening of the Cancer Center
    1. Services 17 counties
    2. Working with University of Iowa to become a certified cancer center
    3. Bring clinical trials to Carroll for cancer treatment
  2. COVID update:
    1. Vaccine is mandatory for employees
      1. Currently sitting at a 98% compliance rate
    2. COVID numbers are below 10% for Carroll County
    3. COVID unit is closed at the hospital at this time
    4. Vast majority of new cases are Omicron variant
  3. Mental health issues are on the rise.
  4. IT upgrade for Meditech (software for patient charting)
    1. More staff friendly
    2. Have contracts with Clarinda and Manning for server space as well
  5. Physician recruitment:
    1. Brian Boes – neurologist
      1. 4 days/week in Carroll
      2. 2 days/month in Atlantic and Harlan
      3. Grew up in Carroll area
    2. 3 family practice OB providers are joining this summer
      1. 1 male, 2 female
      2. VIP b/c St. Anthony is providing care for the surrounding counties that don’t offer OB services.
  6. Nursing:
    1. Pay increases have been authorized due to hard work and extra hours required to work due to capacity at hospital.
    2. Working on a retention program to keep nurses here.
    3. Utilizing travel nurses currently due to the shortage of nurses
    4. Started offering a variety of shifts
    5. Currently offer FT, PT, PRN (as needed) jobs
  7. Hospital in general:
    1. PT employees are now offered benefits
    2. Moving shifts around to meet the needs of staffing
    3. Maintenance has openings as well
    4. Minimum wage has made it hard to compete with entry level jobs b/c some businesses are offering more.
  8. Ed is retiring at the end of June
    1. Candidates for his position are being selected and interviewed currently.
 
Next meeting is 3/14/22 from 12-1 PM at Family Table Restaurant. No speaker planned. We will use this meeting to prepare invitations for our 100th celebration.
