Carroll Rotary Club 2/28/22 Meeting Minutes
12:10 PM meeting called to order by Catti at The Family Table Restaurant
Attendees: Catti, Phil, Bob F., Hubert, Aaron, John, Mike, Steve, Ann, Ron, Deb
Brag bucks:
  • Welcome back to Phil/Deb
    • Phil was in San Antonio, Texas and did lots of biking and visited Fredericksburg
    • Deb was in Florida from 12/27/1 through 2/21/22  - they went to the Iowa Bowl game and visited Fort Myers Beach, Cape Coral and Key West; Deb says that everyone needs to visit Key West, if they haven’t already.
Speaker: Julie Gore with Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault
  • No longer associated with Family Crisis Center
  • 2 agencies now: 1 for sexual assault and 1 for domestic violence
  • Cover 19 counties in NW Iowa
    • Julie covers Carroll, Sac and Calhoun
  • Funding was cut by $54K this year and is projected to be cut 24% more next year
    • Accepting donations to help families out
  • Julie see’s approximately 1 person/day on average
  • Everything is 100% confidential as long as there is no one in danger
  • There are NO FEES charged for services.
  • Help with providing:
    • Food
    • Clothing
    • Furniture
    • Gas cards
    • Anything really
  • Work with churches and local groups to assist families as well
  • Provide talks with schools for ages pre-K through high school
    • Safe touch
    • Unsafe touch
    • Unwanted touch
    • What’s appropriate for ages in school: hand-holding, etc.
    • Private part touching
      • Assertive voices – when to use and make sure that everyone around can hear you
    • Human Trafficking – older ages
  • Handouts given:
    • 15 bad apps parents should know about
    • 10 Did you know questions
    • Potential signs of abuse
    • What to say, what not to say to a survivor
      • Never ask why questions
      • Always sympathize/empathize
RYLA:
  • 7/17/22 – 7/22/22 @ Grinnell College
  • $450/student
  • Emails to the guidance counselors of Kuemper and Carroll High have been sent.
  • Deadline for registration is 4/30/22
100th Celebration:
  • 4/22/22 at 5:30 PM at Santa Maria Winery
  • Invites
    • Surrounding area Rotary clubs
    • District governor
    • Present and past members
    • Phil to get Catti the “Big” Rotary book that will have area club information
    • Phil to reach out to Mary Baumhover to see if she would be interested in attending.
      • We will pick her up if she doesn’t want to drive.
  • 3/14/22 will be a working meeting to prepare invitations for send out.
