Club business:
  1. Car update: Jerry’s Auto has looked the car over and given us a clean bill; Chris and Adam will get the car in storage; Adam to get the title transferred to us; Chris will get the car listed to get it sold

Speakers: School board candidates: Hunter Harmening; Charles Svensson; Jeff Cullen; Angie Owen; Kristen Lundstrom
What is the main issue that you are trying to strengthen or are passionate about?
Hunter: staff retention – we are in last place in the conference; high turnover; I have a great connection with all the teachers, and I am in all the buildings all the time
Charles: no specific answer; make certain that more commonsense decisions are made
Jeff: agree with Hunter; retention and safety; build relationships with teachers so they feel comfortable coming to him to be heard
Angie: communication with the public; speaking positively about the school systems in Carroll; squashing rumors and communicating the facts about decisions that are made
Kristen: continuing to improve the retention plan; communication is always a battle.
 
How many spots are open: 2 spots/5 candidates running
 
How do you feel about private school vouchers?
Hunter: Not a fan. State reporting – private schools don’t have to report their data to government agencies; private schools fill up quicker and only have so much space.
Charles: going to have to accept it and mold to it
Jeff: not a fan; rules aren’t the same for both schools, so they need to adjust so they are on the same playing field
Angie: not a fan; public school system needs all the money that they can get; not going to be a long-term fix
Kristen: not a fan; parents already had a choice, parents just had to pay for it; public must show where all the money goes all the time; private schools don’t have to show where any money goes and should have too; hurting public rural schools
 
Do you foresee rules impacting teacher retention?
Hunter: Governor Reynolds bumped pay for new teachers and then seasoned teachers got a bump in pay as well
Charles: not aware of government changes
Jeff: What do we have in the city of Carroll that we can draw people? We need to look at the facilities.
Angie: Not sure what is changing in the government; making sure that the teachers/staff feel valued
Kristen: standardized tests showing merit value and teachers pay being based on those tests.
 
Where do you see enrollments going over the next couple of years?
Hunter: enrollment is down 200 students over last 5 years; more administrators than we did 5 years ago; facilities are aging
Charles: if enrollment goes up, we will need facilities
Jeff: Unfortunately, enrollment is going to continue to go down; we need to start to think about how we are going to survive CCSD; consolidation possibly with programs
