10/2/23 Rotary Meeting Minutes

Auction Update:
  • Working to receive donations as quickly as possible.
  • If you have helped organize donations in the past, please do so again this year.
  • All items can be given to Catti for storing until the auction is complete.
  • Live auction is on 11/11/23 at 11 am.
Upcoming Events:
  1. Chamber Coffee – 10/6/23 at 8 AM
  • Harold Bierl at Chamber offices
  • Arrive at 7:30 PM
  • Adam taking care of ordering coffee, donuts, juice, etc.
  1. Pella Tour – 10/9/23 at 12 PM
    1. Arrived between 11:45 and 11:55 AM
    2. Must wear close toe shoes and hair must be above the shoulders to be allowed into the plant.
    3. Lunch will be provided.

  2. Guest Bartender – 10/14/23 from 5-9 PM

    2. Tips received will be given back to us to use for our projects.
Guest Speaker:
Casey Berlau – Instructional Support Levy (ISL) spokesperson
  • ISL will be on the ballot on 11/7/23.
  • Currently approved through 2025, last time it took 3 votes so starting on the renewal vote early.
  • General fund that is made up of 30% income surtax and 70% property taxes.
  • Many surrounding cities have passed this same bill.
  • Allows students at Carroll, Kuemper, ArWeVa to attend classes at DMACC.
    • Fall of 2022 stats: 280 Carroll, 86 Kuemper, 26 ArWeVa students enrolled
    • With this program some students are graduating HS with a diploma and a 2-yr degree.
    • Available to all students
  • Allows for in-town busing for students at both schools.
    • 37 buses total running, 22 routes, 1250 students transported daily
 
Next meeting is on Monday, October 9th and will be at Pella Corporation from 12-1 PM.
