Today’s Greeter: Ken Moulton welcomed members to Bow Rotary and offered some much needed humor to the morning’s words of wisdom

Announcements:
- Tamar Roberts gave an update on the scholarship committee’s work. There were 14 applicants, and after review all of them will receive some level of a scholarship award. Total dollars awarded: $22,500
- The 50th Anniversary committee will have a meeting soon. More details to follow.
- Invoices for upcoming Rotary dues have been sent to all members via email. Please verify that you received yours, and if you did not please contact Betsey Patten.
Sergeant at Arms: Matt Dodge
Happy Bucks:
- Matt Dodge started us off by saying that he really enjoyed his time serving on the scholarship committee. (Editor’s note to Matt: I see a Chairmanship in your future….)
- Karen Wadsworth offered a happy $5 for the Zoom information that went out to members.
- Chris Parkinson continues to be happy for having to ‘shelter in place’ with family near Lake Winnipesaukee.
- Harry Judd had a family member share the revelation that – since a person could get marijuana but yet couldn’t get a haircut – the hippies ‘won’
- Judy Goodnow was happy for seeing Linda at the recent face mask-giveaway in Concord and for facetiming with her granddaughter.
- Tamar Roberts thanked the scholarship committee and noted that her dog has started obedience school.
- Mike Griffin was happy to have served on the scholarship committee (I’m sensing no problems in getting a Chair for next year) and noted the quality of applicants this year.
- Dave Scanlan recently wore his Forester ‘hat’ and had a fantastic day outdoors
- Matt Gatzke had a live Rotarian sighting (always a pleasure to run into you Matt….) and was happy to have visited one of his daughters in Nashua recently.

Joya Dennehy introduced today’s speaker – Phil Slettan, a senior policy analyst with the NH Fiscal Policy Institute. Phil is a Bow graduate and a Bow Rotary Scholarship recipient, and his Powerpoint presentation today centered on “NH’s Economy and the Covid-19 Crisis: An Early Overview”.

There were 4 key takeaways that Phil was hoping to achieve:
- The shock to the economy has been swift and massive
- The crisis’s impacts are disproportionately large for those with least ability to absorb financial situations.
- The last economic recovery was long but started slowly, and left many people in precarious financial situations.
- Projections for future economic growth are very uncertain at this time, with future growth highly dependent on both public health factors and the resources individuals and families have available.
Phil then touched upon data surrounding unemployment insurance claims, the widespread loss of income, and how many households had few resources before the start of the crisis. For more information, visit nhfpi.org
