President Michelle opened the meeting at 07:30.

Bryant started off the meeting with a moment of silence and prayer for the mass shooting victims and their families as well as fellow Rotarians  in Lewiston, ME.

Announcements:

Bow Men’s club inviting ALL Rotarians male & female to join them for a dinner to connect as clubs on 12/7. Reception from 6-7pm and dinner served at 7 pm. Location at the Old Town Hall of course.

Ryan Anastasi made it thru the gauntlet this past week and will be sworn in as the newest member of the Rotary next Friday on 11/3. Eric Anderson will photograph the event.

Please don’t forget to introduce yourself and sign Katie Minihan’s Rotary Book in the next few books to avoid a fine from Tanya Frost Sargent Of Arms.

Tom Ives  wanted to express his gratitude to the fellow Rotarians that helped with roadside cleanup last Saturday in the rain. He was quoted as saying, “ we were few but did MIGHTY work.”

Ben Kiniry thanked all who have bought and distributed the raffle tickets for the auction. Many items have now been collected and are ready to go LIVE online this coming Wednesday 11/1. Don’t forget the two challenges on the table from Gerry Carrier & Tanya Frost to sell ALL of your raffle tickets and Gerry will buy an extra ticket for you and Tanya will donate $100 to the Rotary Foundation if you sell all your tickets as well. So let’s sell our tickets and make Gerry and Tanya pay !!

Mike  Gula reported that ALL 5 members of the grant committee have approved the $260 grant request for Colin Atwell at Bow High School to purchase the bacteria: prochlococcus.  Now the board needs to vote on it.

Birthdays: 

Peter Imse ALMOST celebrated his 2nd birthday in a year :)

John Ruggles celebrated his 79th birthday by giving thanks for his health and reflecting back on a very difficult year last year when he was hospitalized and had struggles with taking a breath. He referenced that now he is helping his wife out now with her own health issues. He was also grateful and looking forward to his 9:10 am tee time at Concord Country Club with friends. All Rotarians present and on Zoom sang him happy birthday!! John had a BIG smile on his face . John turned around and donated $100 to the Paul Harris Fellowship fund. He has been a past recipient of that award twice in his 79 years.

Dean Cascadden was happy to be making his life transition to retirement. He is growing out his hair for he can’t afford a haircut in retirement. He is “ leaning into” his music lesson, playing live gigs here and there, he is also playing hockey as a center and scoring goals. He is working on a “ honey do list” and home projects, he is rehabbing a sailboat . He said “ every day is Sunday.” Retirement looks good on Dean!

Mike Griffin is now a proud grandfather. His daughter Caitlyn gave birth to a health baby girl who weighed in at 9lbs and 2 ounces. His family is GROWING and so is the smile on Mike’s face :)

Matt Dodge  had a blast hanging with his close friends as he played host with his wife last weekend, very happy to share this weekend’s running of the 24 hours of Lemons at Loudon Speedway. He has a car modified with a passenger seat to accommodate his dad this year as a surprise. His dad is part of his 3 man  “ pit crew.”

Tom Ives: very grateful for the help & support in last weekends roadside cleanup in the rain.

Mike Gula: happy to be on time, happy to see clean roads in Bow, happy for this coming weekend’s family & friends weekend up at Husson University where his son Vance is a freshman.

Linda Bliss: so happy to make the solo trip over to NY state to visit her two grandchildren ages 2 & 4 . The grandchildren wore her out but she kept up with them like a champ. She is also happy to have her long term friend Rick Yeames as a guest speaker today .

Gerry Carrier  is looking forward to downtown Concord Halloween Howl and participating in the festive activities.

Vanessa  Palange: thankful for her friends & family in Lewiston, ME being safe in light of the mass shooting that took place in that Maine community.

Tanya Frost:  she is very excited to host her annual Halloween party this weekend with the these of the “ Birdcage.” She has a very special magic wand to use on her guests during the party. Happy Halloween!

Program: 

Linda Bliss Introduced her long term friend Rick Yeames who is also known as the “ pied Piper of pizza” and a Solar Eclipse Ambassador.  He is known as an “ eclipsesanaut .”

Rik Yeames has deep knowledge about eclipses and loves to share his passion with others particularly with the community and children, the next generation.

The next total eclipse of the sun will be seen in NH on April 8, 2024. 

The last one in NH to be seen was last seen in 1959. 

The NH eclipse will be here in 164 days and then the next one in NH will not be seen in NH for another 20,262 days from now. 

An eclipse occurs on Earth every 6-18 months at different locations. Rick chases them around the world like Magellan and loves it. 

Rick brought in paraphernalia about eclipses for all to see and touch including stickers and eclipse glasses for the April eclipse to see. The NH eclipse will last only about 3:30 minutes and will be best viewed up in Coos County. Go make your reservations now before it is too late.
