Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever.
As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.
Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort.
Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.
Shelter Box Everyone deserves a place to call home. It is a human right and the first step towards recovery after disaster.
Shelter is so much more than just a roof. It’s the foundation for life, families and communities. It is a place to feel safe after days or weeks of fear. It offers protection from harsh weather, privacy, and helps to preserve dignity. It’s a space to heal from trauma.
Shelter and other essential items help people protect themselves from diseases like coronavirus and malaria.
Emergency shelter can also prevent communities from scattering. This means people stay connected and build resilience together.
When you don’t have to keep moving or worry about where to sleep at night, you can think about tomorrow. Items like tents, tarpaulins, tools, blankets, mosquito nets, cooking sets and water filters help to meet the most urgent needs, so you can start to earn a living, send children to school and rebuild your home.
Recovery doesn’t happen overnight, but a dry and warm place to sleep, prepare meals and be with your family is the vital first step.
ShelterBox provides shelter, essential items and technical assistance to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people recover and rebuild their homes after disasters. They listen and adapt our support to the needs of each community, working together with those affected by disaster, alongside our supporters and partners. Our mission
The Rotary Foundation helps Rotary members to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty.
RARE (Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment) is an activity that establishes an efficient and effective program for distributing obsolete medical and educational equipment to disadvantaged communities in Australia and overseas under a regulative framework.
Repurposing equipment achieves sustainability by placing obsolete equipment where it is needed, turning landfill into lifesaving aid, dramatically and measurably improving social and environmental outcomes.
Projects accept suitable items and organise suitable recipients. They manage delivery logistics and undertake to ensure that donated equipment is fully operational and that all essential accessories, supply documentation and services manuals critical to the usability of the equipment are available.
We recommend that when consigning containers of goods and equipment, Rotary Clubs and others seek advice and work with our distribution centres.
Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd. (RAWCS) was formed to enable Australian Rotarians, Rotary Districts and Rotary Clubs to assist disadvantaged communities and individuals through humanitarian aid projects.
RAWCS facilitates and empowers Rotary projects to do good in the World. We Back doing Good.
- Projects – volunteer work teams and/or funding for Rotary projects undertaken locally, nationally and internationally;
- Rotarians Against Malaria – providing supplies, equipment and volunteers to support the elimination of malaria in our region by 2030;
- RARE – collecting and transporting surplus goods from Australia to where they are needed overseas;
- Communications – delivering Rotary in action to the public, the corporate sector, philanthropists and governments and linking Rotarians and Clubs with RAWCS activities.
