Youth Service CAPALABA ROTARY CLUB ALL ROUNDER AWARDS  


School All Rounder Awards for 2023 have been completed.  In total, 19 Awards were presented at local Primary and Secondary Schools.  Thanks to presenters David FIELD, John SHELLEY (photo below left at Birkdale South SS), Bill YORK, Suzie TAFOLO, Clive PLUNKETT, Annette RICHARDS (photo below right at Coolnwynpin SS) and Col SUTCLIFFE for attending the various ceremonies and presenting Awards.

Thanks also to Clive PLUNKETT for liaising with the Schools and Col SUTCLIFFE for arranging the engraving and the All Rounder Medals.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs and districts where you develop your skills as a leader while having fun and making connections.

What’s involved?
RYLA events are organized locally by Rotary clubs and districts for participants ages 14-30. Depending on community needs, RYLA may take the form of a one-day seminar, a three-day retreat, or a weeklong camp. Typically, events last 3-10 days and include presentations, activities, and workshops covering a variety of topics.

Your community might host a RYLA event for secondary school students to hone their leadership potential, for university students to develop creative problem-solving strategies, or for young professionals to learn ethical business practices.

Science and Engineering Challenge
PP John Shelley PHF presented a cheque for $2000.00 to DGN Sue Mulraney PHF for Science and Engineering 

Challenge 
Capalaba Rotary Club, for a number of years, have supported the Science and Engineering Challenge with a financial donation and with a number of Volunteers attending to supervise and assist with activities. 

The Science and Engineering Challenge, is run in conjunction with The University of Newcastle, and helps Year 9 and 10 students to foster their interest in STEM, with the hope that more students will consider future careers in these areas. 

The Challenge involves a full day of practical activities where students put their best problem-solving minds to 
  • design efficient codes to send secret messages along fibre optic rods using pulses of coloured light. 
  • build a strong model bridge that can support a trolley carrying ‘gold’ ingots from one side of a test rig to the other, and much more!  ignore text

Green Frog Award
The Green Frog Award - Selection Process:
The selection of the Awardee will be by a Committee of President, The Rotary Foundation Chair and the Literacy Coordinator (Chair).  The Committee can seek nominations or identify an Awardee from their knowledge.
 
Presentation - The Award can be presented in September, Basic Education and Literacy Month or November, The Rotary Foundation Month.
 
The Award - The Award to consist of:
•    Perpetual Trophy
•    Personal Plaque
•    $750 towards a Literacy Project identified by the Awardee on presentation of a Project

Vocational l  Service 1 Police Officer of the Year

This event was bought to Capalaba Rotary by Past President Warren Doyle who saw a similar event at a Rotary Club he visited.

Our first event was in 2007 and we have continued to seek nominations of Police Officers from their peers. All nominees are invited to attend the awards night supported by Redland City Council Funding and Rotary Club of Capalaba.

For our guests to hear first hand the skills of those nominated is invaluable. Profit from this event is distributed to PCYC Capalaba and Police Legacy
