Focusing on Youths

September is Rotary's Youth Service Month.  Youth Services is, and has been, one of the Rotary Club of Road Town’s main areas of focus.  Our Club has adopted a proactive approach with youth leadership by sponsoring two EarlyAct clubs, an Interact club and (shared sponsorship of) a Rotaract club.  We also sponsor and support annual youth achievement  and co-academic programmes such as the National Spelling Bee, General Knowledge Quiz Bowl and the Spanish Bowl.

Educational development of our youth is paramount.  Each year we sponsor and participate in providing and distributing dictionaries to class three students territory wide.  Having adopted the Enis Adams Primary School as an ongoing community service project our members have spent many weekends working on the grounds and  have provided playground equipment which helps the kids to develop their cognitive and social skills.

Our annual Kiddies Fiesta is all about the kids!  This event which occurs in late July ushers in the territory's emancipation celebrations with a children's parade, games, rides, food and other entertainment.  This year we provided 300 back-to-school backpacks filled with school supplies to lucky young attendees.

In July our club took its Youth Focus a step further to reach kids who are at risk of falling through the cracks.  This new initiative will focus on five critical areas - crime minimization, drug prevention, at-risk sexual behavior, self esteem and behavioral attitudes.  By partnering with the Hope Foundation (a church based group) and Follow the Movement (a progressive youth talent promotion organisation)  the Club will work to provide support and guidance to youths between the ages of 15 and 25 to reduce anti-social and high risk behaviours and to provide positive social development and growth opportunities for the most vulnerable fractions of our society.

This alliance is made possible through the generosity of our Corporate Partners, LIME BVI; Mourant Ozannes and Nagico.

We encourage the community at large to join with Rotary, become a part of the solution and make a difference in the life of a young person today.
