Happy 1st Anniversary to Early Act
ON 28th January 2011, the EarlyAct Club of Enis Adams Primary School received its Charter from Rotary District Chair for EarlyAct Ms. Monica Ramjeet, in a colourful ceremony attended by His Excellency Governor Boyd McCleary, Ministers of Government Hon Dancia Penn and Hon.Andrew Fahie and many Rotarians, school faculty and friends. One year on, the Club celebrated its first anniversary with a luncheon at the Moorings Mariner Inn on 8th February, 2012.
In the intervening 12 months, the Club has added 10 more members taking membership to 40. It has taken its commitment to Community service to heart with community projects at the school, at the Esslyn Henley Learning Centre, where for two years now students have received Christmas gifts from the Club. The Club also raised some US$140 from a penny collection for Rotary International’s flagship International appeal to eradicate Polio from the world, known as the Polio Plus programme. Members of the Club have also supported many of the events of the sponsoring Rotary Club, the Rotary Club of Road Town, including the annual health fair, the Kiddies Fiesta and the Clubs Christmas breakfast. Members of the dance troupe also figured prominently in the recent launch of the District Conference 2013 theme, the conference to be held in the BVI in May 2013.
The Club has also undertaken a number of field projects to broaden their minds, including a trip to Sage Mountain, a visit to the Beef Island salt pond, the department of Disaster Management and the Road Town Fire station. Members are also schooled in leadership and public speaking.
Todays luncheon was attended by 37 Club members, Principal Mrs. Carleen Parsons, EarlyAct advisers from the school Mrs. Susan Gregg and Mrs. Mary Warrican, Mrs. Beverly Braithwaite from the Ministry of Education, District Governor elect Vance Lewis, immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Road Town Charles Benjamin, New Generations Director of the Rotary Club of Road Town, Charles Crane and the Rotary Club of Road Town Treasurer Geraldeen Johnson.
President of the EarlyAct Club, Mateo Parsons, opened the luncheon with a confident message of welcome. Remarks were made by Principal Carleen Parsons, Educator Mrs Braithwaite, Mrs Gregg, Charles Benjamin and DGE Vance Lewis; there was a common theme to all remarks with agreement that the EarlyAct Club was a credit to the school, to the Rotary Club of Road Town, to the Club and to themselves. Teachers Mrs. Gregg and Mrs. Warrican received fulsome praise for the tremendous support they had given the Club in helping to organise its events and activities; the Ministry of education was thanked for their support and encouragement for the EarlyAct movement.
The Club is now in its second year and has a busy schedule of events ahead, with its dance troupe again performing at the Rotary Clubs Health Fair on 17th March, 2012 being the first on the Calendar
EarlyAct is a school based programmed sponsored by Rotary Clubs; the EarlyAct Club of Enis Adams School is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Road Town. Membership is open to primary school children between the ages of 7 and 11. The objects of the Club are to introduce the members to Service in the Community and to provide opportunities for leadership..
