Carried live on ZROD 103.7, in her remarks, President Yvonne welcomed everyone both present and listening on ZROD to the climax of this year’s raffle. She explained that the Club had held a raffle at this time of year for the past nine years and that the raffle was the major fundraiser for the Club. Proceeds from this and other fundraisers provide the club with the financial resources to carry out the various community service projects throughout the year. Past beneficiaries of the Club’s efforts include Peebles Hospital Dialysis Unit, Enis Adams Primary School, Kids and the Sea (KATS), whilst the funds raised also enable the Club to support its annual Health Fair, the Right Start Programme and the Spelling Bee, among other projects.

President Yvonne noted “for the past several years the Club has enjoyed the support of many local businesses who have provided raffle prizes. This year we are very grateful for the support we received from Nail Bay Resort, LIME, Caribbean Cellars, Little Switzerland, Little Denmark, Infinite Solutions, Bolos Department Store and O’Neal Webster who provided prizes for the main draw, whilst TICO/Penfold Wines, Little Dix Bay Hotel, Island Services and Radio Doctor donated prizes for the Early Bird draw, held in November. As in the last three years,” she said, “the Club had an Early Bird draw which took place on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend in conjunction with the annual tree lighting ceremony at the Sir Olva Georges Plaza, and we are grateful to the Lions Club for allowing us to join with them in this event.”

Continuing, President Yvonne said “this year we added what we thought was a great incentive to our supporters in the form of a discount coupon with every ticket purchased. In an effort to give back something of value to those supporting the raffle, we joined forces with RiteWay Food Markets to provide a 5% discount coupon with every ticked sold on purchases of $150 or more redeemable at any of their supermarkets on the island. In a time of economic constraints, this generous support by RiteWay helped to boost ticket sales, as the discount available more than covered the cost of a ticket. We are truly grateful to RiteWay for partnering with us in this fundraising effort.”

The top prize this year was a cash prize of $7,500, whilst the second prize was $5000. The following are the prize winners from the main draw:

Special thanks to all Rotarians who went out there and sold tickets.  I again thank RiteWay and all our sponsors, and wish you all a very blessed Christmas and good fortune and health in the New Year.”
