PREPARING FOR BACK TO SCHOOL

Rotarian Joan Cooney who volunteers at the Soup Kitchen and works with
local schools on our Get Kids to School Programme, recognized a need
to assist parents in preparing their children for the first day of
school – with uniforms, shoes and school supplies. Traditionally,
parents would need to travel to Savannah La Mar or Montego Bay
(expensive bus/taxi fares) to purchase these items. Now, in
partnership with the Franciscan Friars and GKTS, parents can come to
Joan at an office next to the Soup Kitchen for “at cost” supplies or
to set up a payment plan. This is the third year of the project and
since word is getting out to the community, it gets bigger every year!
