Get Registered

 The second, and perhaps equally important element of the Programme “Get Kids to School”, is called "Get Registered".  This aspect is intended to encourage and provide support to parents and children to obtain basic required documentation, such as identity cards and birth certificates, necessary to function effectively and progress in the course of everyday life.  The process of obtaining these documents is often daunting.  Both elements of this programme involve Rotarians working closely with families to assess needs, ensure that their commitment and participation is on-going and to assist with the processes.

Rotary President Ken Cooney points out, “The desired long-term outcome of this programme is to remove people from a state of dependence on the support of others by empowering them to move forward in their own right.”

Those aspects of the programme aimed at securing regular attendance at school will ensure that more children leave school with a better chance of securing employment and have prospects for higher education.  Getting registered will also help to remove obstacles caused by the lack of proper documentation, thus allowing access to opportunities enjoyed by the population at large.
