On 31 March 2026, “Raise it for Redcliffe” Hospital supporters, community partners, hospital staff and guests came together to celebrate the official opening of the Palliative Care Unit’s newly refurbished lounge, garden courtyard and children’s play area.
These upgrades were made possible through the incredible support of our community, past “Raise it for Redcliffe” Hospital Giving Days and the inspiring legacy of individuals such as Karen Wilson, who shared her story and motivation for giving back with those in attendance.
It was a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together to raise comfort, raise connection and raise dignity for patients and their families at Redcliffe Hospital.
The renovations were made possible thanks to “Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital” fundraising initiatives and a series of community events, where locals really got behind the cause—raising significant funds, including more than $200,000 raised in an earlier campaign.
The project has turned the lounge and sunroom into warm, welcoming spaces, with thoughtful touches and amenities that help bring comfort during what can be a really difficult time.
As part of the upgrades, a new garden courtyard was established, offering a peaceful place where loved ones can step away, reflect, and spend some quiet time together.
This is just one step in an ongoing effort, with plans to continue upgrading all single rooms in the Palliative Care Unit to make them as comfortable and supportive as possible at the end of life.
The project was supported by numerous local partners. The Redcliffe Hospital Auxiliary and the Rotary Club of Redcliffe Sunrise are recognized as a vital "Community Partners" whose efforts and donations are matched by "Impact Partners" such as the Lewis Land Group (The Komo and Belvedere Hotels) to support the hospital.
Redcliffe Sunrise were represented by President Paul Harcombe, Hugh Thompson and newest member, Annette Prestidge.
Honorary Rotarians, Sandra Ruck and Kerri-Anne Dooley were also invited guests.
