The City of Moreton Bay Councill is offering ‘Green’ grants to organisations to plant Verge Gardens.

The opportunity to “Bring Back the Buzz” between your boundary fence and the foot path has arrived.
Council has shared a Verge Garden Gallery featuring three locations where community verge gardens have been established.

There is a growing interest in Community Verge Gardens across Australia and there are many organisations such as Rotary are doing just that. An example is the Rotary club of Balwyn in Victoria
The plants will be sourced from Kumbartcho Native Nursery.
They will be small and in tubes and there will be a requirement to water for a couple of weeks post planting to get the plants established.
“Check before you Dig” will be carried out on your verge in co-operation with Council to check for potential issues – Water – Electricity – and other possible infrastructure considerations.
If you live in block of units, you will have to get body corporate permission before we start.

Monitoring will be carried out post planting at six or 12 month intervals- backyards for biodiversity and UniSc citizen science techniques based on a previous research paper.
An extensive Community Engagement and Education Program (CE&E) will be rolled out, which includes bus tours and community get-togethers to present and discuss involvement.
