Club Secretary and Rotarian of the Year (2024-25) Rhonda Brodie accepted an invitation from our community partner of 'Raise it for Redcliffe' hospital to attend the 9th Annual Redcliffe Hospital Research Symposium.The Symposium is an annual showcase event for research at Redcliffe Hospital. It aims to provide an annual forum to recognize, celebrate and promote research and quality improvement activities at Redcliffe Hospital.
Here's what she had to say.
"I had the pleasure of representing Rotary Club of Redcliffe Sunrise at this recent event. The presentations represented a diversity of research and quality improvement projects. The symposium culminated in the keynote presentation - What is Compassion and Why it matters for our mental health - by Associate Professor James Kirby.
Professor Kirby is an a codirector of The Compassionate Mind Research Group conducted through the University of Queensland School of Psychology This was an apt address given that the event was held on RUOK Day.
The range of topics presented by the research groups were quite informative and included: Identifying discharge dates for ICU patients, Robotics Readiness to increase physical activity of older patients at Redcliffe Hospital, Creating Learning resources that students value and appreciate, Strategies to reduce admissions of haemodialysis patients, Identifying Did Not Wait/ left after treatment ATSI patients, nurse led Swallow Screening of post tubation patients, Enhanced Recovery after Surgery Audit, optimizing the pharmacy referral pathway in cancer care, source control in bloodstream of sepsis patients, pelvic health physiotherapy, dysphagia presentation and management, and Best Practice principles for trauma informed care of fathers and non-birthing parents.
It was an honour to listen and respond to these informative presentations. Even from a non medical viewpoint there was much to learn and consider.
