Damien Stein is a Queensland-based quality professional and business owner with over 14-years experience across the oil, gas, mining, and construction sectors.
With a background in metallurgy, he has worked in both client and contractor roles, specialising in quality management systems, welding and mechanical inspections, materials performance, and compliance on major infrastructure projects.
Damien’s focus on solar-panel recycling began after his own rooftop solar panels failed after nine years, prompting a simple but confronting question: what happens to these panels next?
Drawing on his technical knowledge and industry experience, he saw an opportunity to help address a growing end-of-life problem facing Australia’s clean-energy transition.
Through his work, Damien aims to ensure the shift to renewable energy remains genuinely sustainable by recovering high-value materials, supporting circular-economy outcomes, and creating practical, local recycling pathways for industry, councils, and communities.
He actively collaborates with industry bodies, research organisations, and government stakeholders including WRIQ (Waste Recycling Industry Queensland), CSIRO, and the Smart Energy Council and advocates for increased funding, investment, and community support to scale local recycling infrastructure and deliver responsible, long-term solutions for solar waste in Australia.
