The Grey Mangrove (Avicennia marina) is the predominant mangrove species in the Deception Bay Conservation Park, which is an integral part of the internationally significant Moreton Bay Ramsar Site, bordering the Deception Bay Environmental Hub in the north.

Jack Hill is a PhD candidate at the School of the Environment, University of Queensland.
He is often found in the field, on beautiful Quandamookadjara – Quandamooka Country) and waters (Yarabindjara – Quandamooka Sea Country).
Jack is keen to understand the architecture of mangrove trees and is particularly excited by the unique structures of mangrove roots.
He believes that understanding the function of these woody anchorages across species will support efforts to secure and shelter coastal communities, in a changing climate.
