PRESENTER
Dr Savindi Caldera is a sustainability researcher transforming how construction and manufacturing businesses think about the future. Her work combines lean thinking, cleaner production and circular-economy principles to help organisations reduce waste, cut costs and build more resilient ways of operating - without losing sight of people or the planet.
At the heart of her research is a novel lean and green strategy model designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises move beyond inconsistent, ad hoc sustainability efforts that depend on individual champions. Instead, her approach embeds sustainability into everyday organisational processes, turning it into a practical driver of innovation, employee engagement and long-term business resilience.
Dr Caldera completed her PhD in Environmental Management, specialising in lean and green manufacturing, at Queensland University of Technology's School of Earth, Environmental and Biological Sciences. Her achievements were recognised with the QUT Science and Engineering Faculty High Achiever Award and the prestigious QUT Siganto Foundation Medal.
Through her research, Dr Caldera is showing that sustainability is not simply an environmental obligation. It can be a powerful business strategy - one that makes organisations more efficient, innovative and prepared for a circular future.
