Talking about Fire Ants | Invasive Species Part 2

The Invasive Species Council (ISC) advocates for the eradication of fire ants in Australia, highlighting their devastating impact on native wildlife, human health, and the economy. The ISC says that fire ants, native to South America, are a major threat to ecosystems and agriculture, potentially causing billions in damage annually if not eradicated. The council urges governments to commit the necessary funding and resources for a comprehensive eradication program, which is currently being managed by the Queensland government with national and state support.
Meet Reece Pianta, Queensland-based Advocacy Manager for the Invasive Species Council (ISC). 
 
His work at the Invasive Species Council has helped secure funding and build community support for Australia’s fire ant eradication program.

He was also involved in the early formation of Yellow Crazy Ant eradication efforts in the Townsville area.
 
Visits to infestation areas in Cairns and Townsville and living in the Brisbane fire ant biosecurity zone left a deep appreciation of the mounting impacts that little invaders have on every aspect of life.
 
Previously, Reece worked as a Ministerial Advisor on renewable energy in Queensland, on communications and campaigns at the Queensland National Parks Association, and with local members of parliament and candidates for public office at every level.
 
Reece holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Queensland University.
