Seaweed farming builds a fast-growing, low-input crop that needs no fresh water, land or fertiliser. Biomass rich in agar, alginate and ulvan improves soil water retention and mine-site revegetation; protein, iodine and fibre feed food and nutraceutical markets; sulphated polysaccharides supply cosmetics actives; and cellulose, ulvan and alginate yield biodegradable textile fibres. Distributed across all four sectors, one harvest stream supports diversified revenue and regional jobs.
